EACC, on April 2, 2012, launched its book on Customary Dispute Resolution Mechanisms (CDRM) in Ethiopia. The book launch workshop was held at Ghion Hotel and it was followed by a reception. The workshop was officially opened with a key note address by Ato Berhanu Tsegaye, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice.

 Two books were published as a result of EACC research into CDRM in various regions across Ethiopia.  It can be noted that prior to the publication of the book, EACC held five workshops in various regions in order to validate the findings of the research. These workshops and discussions that were held helped the researchers to develop the research findings. Now that the research was finalized the books were published and a launching workshop was held. 19 types of customary dispute resolution mechanisms in Ethiopia were featured in the CDRM book and the articles provide a detailed insight into customary law practiced in different corners of the country. Another book, an annotated bibliography on studies on customary dispute resolution mechanisms in Ethiopia was also published.

From December 12 to16, 2011, EACC organized and gave mediation training. Participants from various organizations attended the training. Most of the participants were Federal First Instance Court judges and social workers. Trainees for the mediation training were drawn from Lideta, Kolfe Keranyo, Akaki Kality, Kirkos, Lafto, Menagesha, Arada and Kera First Instance Courts. EACC is assisting the Federal First Instance Courts to set up court annexed mediation services at five Federal First Instance Courts. EACC has furnished mediation rooms at these courts, in order to facilitate the provision of mediation services from the court venues. Those trained will assist with the court annexed mediation services. Those cases that are more likely to be resolved through mediation will be referred by the judges to mediation, to be mediated upon by the designated mediator.

EACC organized and held its third national arbitration moot competition from November 28th to 30th 2011. Addis Ababa University, Jimma University, Adama University, Mekelle University, Hawassa University, Haramaya University, Wollega University, Wollo University, Bahir Dar University and DebreMarkos University.

 This third arbitration moot competition was dedicated to the memory of the late Ato Yohaness Hiroui, EACC’s expert on ADR, who passed away recently. Experienced judges judged the competition. 30 judges judged the first round of the moot competition, while 6 judges sat as arbitrators in the second round of the moot competition. 3 judges sat to judge the final competition. Addis Ababa University, Adama University, Haramaya University and Jimma University got to the semi final while Addis Ababa University and Jimma University passed to the final championship round. The judges at the final round of the moot competition were Ato Desalegne Berhe, president of the Federal First Instance Courts, Ato Berhane Mogesse and Ato Tameru Wondemagegnehu, both well renowned and experienced attorneys.

EACC held a workshop on the benefit of using mediation to resolve labour related disputes. The workshop was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Justice and 91 participants attended the workshop, which lasted for one day on August 25, 2011.

 After introductions by Ato Siraj Abdella, W/ro Haregewein Ashenafi, the executive director of EACC gave a speech to welcome the participants and invited guests. Following her speech, the guest of Honor, Dr. Zerihun Kebede, vice minister of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs gave an opening speech and acknowledged the importance of the workshop.
